Colour Varieties of Budgies:-
Rainbow Budgies:-
This is a Rainbow budgie (Spangle Opaline Yellow-Face Dominant Clearflight Pied) I bred from a Yellow-Face Green Spangle Male and a Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Female.
Above Picture: Here you can see the side/front of the Rainbow Budgie. The Budgie has yellow/blue/green wings with Opaline markings and clear flight feathers.
Above Pictures: Here you can see the tummy of the Rainbow Budgie. The Budgie has a yellow band across its blue/green tummy.
The below picture is of the parents of the Rainbow budgie.
Pied Budgies:-
Below Picture is a Dominant Pied. Note the Iris ring and can have anywhere between 2-6 throat spots. The body of the bird is to be a solid even shade colour, except the patches of ground colour that appear on any part(s) of the body and on the cheeks, back of the head, neck and wings they have clearly defining black bars. Please Note; this budgie is not show quality, due to no throat spots.
Below Picture is a Danish Recessive Pied. Note the absent Iris ring and can have anywhere between 2-6 irregular throat spots. They have irregular patches of ground colour on their body, with an even solid shade of body colour. Black bars or spots cover the back of the head, neck and cheeks. Wing markings are random in pattern and distribution, they cover about 10% to 20% of the total wing area. The frontal crown should be free of markings.
Below Picture is a Harlequin Pied. Note the absent Iris ring and have between 2-6 irregular shaped throat spots. They are a Danish Recessive Pied variety but are yellow and blue's only. They have irregular patches of ground colour on their body (covers most of the bottom half), with an even solid shade of body colour. Black bars or spots cover the back of the head, neck and cheeks. Wing markings are random in pattern and distribution, they cover about 10% to 20% of the total wing area. The frontal crown should be free of markings. Note this hen's frontal crown markings are still fading and she is also a Golden-Face, as that is why her mask is a deeper yellow then her body colour. Also note, that the Harlequin Pied is NOT a correct term for this variety, as it is a Danish Pied.
Below Picture is a Dominant Clearflight Pied. Note the Iris ring and evenly spaced round black throat spots (between 2-6.) To be a even and solid shade throughout back, rump, breast, flank and underparts. Spot of ground colour may be present on the back of the head. Black bars or spots cover the back of the head, neck, cheeks and wings. The frontal crown and main flight feathers should be free of markings. Please Note; this is a Opaline Clearflight Pied and a Clearflight Pied will have different markings.
